"There was a man who complained because he had no shoes until he met a man who had no feet."
True enough, we have no right to complain. But sometimes, reading sayings like this will just make you realize it for a minute or two. The following day, you'll complain again. But what if, you encounter real people who are so poor but they do not complain?
I rarely watch TV because of my uber hectic schedule but last saturday, I decided to watch TV, surfed channels and Howie Severino's Sine Totoo on GMA-7 caught my wandering attention. The episode was about a segment from Vicky Morales' Wish Ko Lang featuring Jan Pabilona, an 82-year old lolo from Cavite. With only 50 pesos to spend, he goes to Baclaran from Cavite then he walks all the way to Ortigas. He goes there to look for jobs. He does this every single day just to find a job or even get hired for just one day so he can feed his family. Even if he gets turned down which happens most of the time, he doesn't feel bad about it.
The second story is about a 73 year-old blind man from Bicol who feeds his sick wife and 3 deaf-mute children by carrying pails of water on his shoulder and delivering it to different houses. He's earning 35 pesos a day which allows him to buy 1 kilo of rice and dried fish for his family.
Do watch these 4 videos I got from YouTube showing their stories.
The things that we ignore and take for granted may be someone else's dream. If you only have 500 pesos in your pocket and you complain that you no longer have enough money till your next payday, think about the people who are earning less than 500 a month to feed a family of 8. If you are complaining about your job, imagine yourself without it.
An eye-opener indeed. We have no right to complain. When bad things happen, we have to appreciate what we have and we have to count our blessings. We always have to remember that there are people who are not as blessed as we are and yet..they do not complain. They just let things be.
