Confessions of an Ukay-Ukay Addict

This is the much awaited installment from my recent trip to Baguio "the ukay-ukay capital of the Philippines". I don't know what's with the place that they chose to send majority of the "supposed-to-be-donations" box that should have been sent to Somalia
----> is always redirected to Baguio.

When you're in Baguio and you talk about "ukay", it doesn't only mean clothes, they "ukay" ebritinggggg... hahahaha. shoes, bags, undies, scarves, hankies, supporters, caps, wigs, accessories, toys, belts, socks, leg warmers, utensils, name it -- they "ukay" it.

Don't hunt along the ukays of session road, that's pretty costly. Try the one that's near burnham or the one along Diego SIlang road. Cheapest ukay ever! I bought this dress, long sleeved one, with an asymmetrical cut with a cool hoisted up collar -- the typical rockista get up, something that Barbie Almalbis or Avril Lavigne can wear. And it's for only TEN PESOS!!!!!!!!

It was here!!!

below is the cheapest tsinelas i bought for P34 pesos. Cute!

the identities of the remaining ukay, all of which are now in my possession, shall remain confidential. ;-p

Another tip:

If you want to buy the cheapest of the cheapest... when i talk cheap, i mean 5 pesos or 6 pesos. Try going to Baguio's palengke at around 5am (brave the cold weather, man!). It's what they call "bagsakan", where other "sellers" make pakyaw the ukay (hehehehe). So when you buy from them directly, it's cheaper since they haven't tagged the price yet ;-)

Important!

Check for damages. Be very selective. Don't just buy it coz it's cheap. Go for quality.

I can go on an ukay-ukay spree with you. Provided you pay for my fare to Baguio.

Food trippin'

Oh wow.

SO how do I go about writing in this journal again? I've got tons of stuff to say!!!!! Most recent was the trip to Baguio and it was a BLASTTTT!!!!! I really needed time to de-stress and when i say de-stress, it could mean a lotta things. Destressing by hunting cool clothes at the cheapest ukay-ukay stores in the City of Pines and I can tell you that spending 450 pesos for 6 coooollll clothes are WORTH it!!!!! Lowest at 10 pesos!!!! Too bad, i could've worn that 10-peso dress during our XMas Rockista party @ the Philippine Plaza but anyways, i know there'll be cooler occasions where i can wear it. The most expensive ukay i bought was worth 100pesos.

SIMPLY SPECIAL

We had to scout the cheapest restos in the city. A good friend of mine referred me to this place they call ...

:-) For its sumptuous meal at a very low price. We tried their sisig and it was so damn SPICY!!!! hahahaha

The place is okay, we stayed at the veranda part of this resto. The view wasn't spectacular though because there were bundles and bundles of electrical wiring obstructing Burnham Park's view. Their washroom is at its cleanest when we went there but it's cute! Service just okay.

ANDOK'S

We also tried Andok's dine-in along Session Road and oh my, was the rice as hard as my head... Look.

I could draw a face on it hahahhahahaha!!!!! No matter how good the chicken tasted, I just couldn't enjoy it. :( Add to that, the noise along Session Road that time and everyone who passes by just looks at you. The tables are soooo near the sidewalk that anyone who passes by can just grab your plate and run.

Please pay attention to the rice you are serving. Andok's is associated with the best affordable chicken in town but it won't hurt to, you know, make sure that you are serving quality rice as well.

CHICKEN BALLS

We were so hungry we weren't able to take a shot of my fave chicken balls, so what's left is......

Why Kalachuchi?

I've been blogging since I was exposed to the net back in 1999. And I was just doing it for fun and IF I have the time. But it has always been my personal blog which I only share with friends and family. Lately, I've come to realize the importance of what they call "word of mouth". This is when you try things that are indirectly offered to you. Words can really make or break certain things. Like when something bad is written about your fave resto, you start to have qualms whether you should still eat there or not. Right? Or when something you thought was bad but something good is written about it, there's no stopping you from trying to see if it ain't really that bad at all.

You will all see this stuff here in my blog. Comments do matter and I personally want to share my opinion about all the things that are under the sun! These are and will be the stuff that I personally tried and/or experienced. Mind you, I'm very choosy but when I really love something, I would definitely recommend it!

Why Kalachuchi? It just reminds me of my childhood days. I've seen kalachuchi trees as a kid and I don't even know what the flower was called. Google it and you will find trivias stating that kalachuchis can be associated with death and this also used as a way for predicting the fate of American sailors during World War II.

Ready to be showered with Kalachuchis? :)
